The main cast has been announced and a PV released for Hibike! Euphonium which will begin broadcasting in April. Already, excitement is building for the broadcast.
Hibike! Euphonium is a new anime by Kyoto Animation based on Ayano Takeda’s original manga Hibike! Euphonium Kitauji Koko Suisogaku-bu e Yokoso. Takeda was born in 1992 and is currently a college student. She is an up-and-coming author who successfully debuted with Kyo, Kimi to Iki o Suru, which made it to the second round of Takarajimasha’s 8th Japan Love Story Awards.
The announced cast includes Tomoyo Kurosawa as main character Kumiko Oumae who plays the euphonium, Ayaka Asai as Hazuki Sato who plays the tuba, Moe Toyota as Sapphire Kawashima who plays the contrabass, and Chika Anzai as Reina Kosaka who plays the trumpet. Kurosawa’s past roles include Otome Arisugawa from Aikatsu! and Miria Akagi from Idolmaster Cinderella Girls. Asai’s past roles include Mio Naruse from The Testament of Sister New Devil and Hina Origami from School Girl Strikers. Toyota’s past roles include Sakura Inami from Beyond the Boundary and Kurumi Kakura from Saki: The Nationals. And Anzai’s past roles include Suzu Shuto from Riddle Story of Devil and Chaika Trabant from Chaika - The Coffin Princess. Each member of the cast is a newcomer born in the early ‘90s.
In the PV, each of the characters makes an appearance holding the instrument they play. The characters are cute and lively, and the PV has a Kyoto Animation feel that closely resembles that of K-On!. The staff as well is a wonderful lineup that will likely make headlines. Look forward to more information to come.

[Story]
Spring of freshman year in high school.
Kumiko Oumae, who used to be a member of her middle school’s wind instrument club, goes to check out the school’s music club along with classmates Hazuki Kato and Sapphire Kawashima. There, she happens to see her former classmate Reina Kosaka. Hazuki and Sapphire decide to join the club, but Himiko is still on the fence. She is reminded of an incident that occurred with Reina at a recital during middle school. What they will find through their activities in the wind instrument club is something money can’t buy. Here begins an adolescent story about young girls giving it their all.
