New “Evangelion” Video Suddenly Releases Online

On Dec. 19, an Evangelion-themed piece by Studio Khara titled Until You Come to Me was released under Japan Anima(tor) Expo, a series of anime shorts produced by Hideaki Anno. The credits show Studio Khara as the producing studio and Hideaki Anno’s name for original work, and it instantly became a topic as the new official video of the aforementioned series.

The video is 6 minutes, 41 seconds long with the opening theme included, and main characters such as Shinji Ikari also appear in it. Fans who saw it online started inspecting right away, asking questions like, “What’s with these entry plugs all around the city?” or, “Does it take place after You Can (Not) Redo?”

The video was also given the subtitle “Concerted Fragments of Esquisse and Music by Tatsuya Kushida.” The French word “esquisse” in the title means rough sketch, and it opens room for speculation about its connection to the final movie of the series, Evangelion: Final. What is the truth after all...?
