One Month Left Until Third Season of "Kuroko’s Basketball" Begins, Screenshots from the Anime Release

Screenshots from the third season of the TV anime Kuroko’s Basketball to begin airing in January 2015 have been released. This is your first chance to check out how Kuroko and the others look in the third season. The broadcast will begin on Saturday, Jan. 10 on MBS, and Tuesday, Jan. 13 on Tokyo MX and BS11.

Kuroko’s Basketball began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) in 2009, and the manga by Tadatoshi Fujimaki is up to its 30th volume. The final chapter was published at the height of its popularity in September of this year.

Two seasons of the TV anime have been broadcast so far––the first in 2012 and the second from October 2013 to March 2014––and now the long-awaited third season will be broadcast. In Season 2, Seirin High’s basketball team, to which main character Tetsuya Kuroko is a member, participate in the Winter Cup, and the season ends with them advancing to the semifinals to face off against Too Academy, to which “Generation of Miracles” player Aomine is a member, and Yosen High, to which Murasakibara is a member.

In Season 3, there will be matches with Fukuda Sogo Academy, to which Kuroko’s same-year classmate Haizaki is a member, and Kaijo High, to which “Generation of Miracles” player Kise is a member. Matches are also expected against Shutoku High, whose players include Midorima, and Rakuzan High, whose players include Akashi.

Seijuro Akashi, who takes up a big portion of the main visual released at this time, is also the No. 1 ranked character according to the third popularity poll and has gained high interest from fans. He also appears in the screenshots released, so it looks like there will be heated matches with him this time as well.

Ahead of the broadcast of the third season, the second fan disc, Kuroko’s Basketball Fan Disc - To a Place Shining with Light (Kuroko no Basuke Fan Disc - Hikari Sasu Basho e), will release on Dec. 25. Included will be an original mini drama and a talk show held at Hirakata Park. Because this is such a popular series, many fans are likely waiting expectantly for more information. Look forward to the next round of information to come.
