Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends, the blockbuster that brought in 430 million yen this year in Japan, will be released on Blu-ray disc on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015. In addition, “Rurouni Kenshin Complete Blu-ray Box,” a box set of all three Rurouni Kenshin films, will also be produced in limited numbers and released the same day.
This Blu-ray and DVD set includes Special Features discs with commentary on all the films, as well as event footage. The first few box sets produced will include a limited edition outer case and disc case, as well as 10 character cards and an original booklet. Furthermore, the special edition Blu-ray has over 120 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage from Kyoto Inferno and The Legend Ends.
This special production footage follows the cast and crew through numerous and varied filming locations across Japan, including Tokyo, Ibaraki, Kumamoto, Yamagata, Kyoto, Shiga, Kanagawa, Tochigi, and Nagano. It includes cast interviews, off-shot footage during takes, exclusive action scene secrets, training footage and other behind-the-scenes extras that capture the production progress of Kyoto Inferno and The Legend Ends. Previously unreleased footage such as Tatsuya Fujiwara's complete transformation into the bandage-covered Shishio Makoto, as well as behind-the-scenes video of Kenshin and Shishio's last battle are also included!

Takeru Satoh comments on his experience working with the film's cast, “I feel truly grateful to have had this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I know that the last six months were pretty grueling for everyone. Thank you for fighting along with me. I could not have done it without your support." The production footage really conveys the passion of the uncompromising staff, and will certainly be a treat for all Rurouni Kenshin fans.
The behind-the-scenes look at the fight sequences between Takeru Satoh as Kenshin and Ryusuke Kamiki as Soujirou are amusing to say the least.
The “Rurouni Kenshin Complete Blu-ray Box,” which goes on sale at the same time, includes all three films on Blu-ray, as well as the special features for each film on three separate additional discs. It also includes the previously mentioned “Making Of Kyoto Inferno/The Legend Ends” special disc, for a grand total of seven discs in the set!
As of Nov. 17, 2014, all three films have grossed 12.5 billion yen in Japan. I hope all Rurouni Kenshin fans will continue to enjoy these hit films in their own home.
