Everyone, did you get to enjoy the three-day weekend? The typhoon in Kansai passed unexpectedly quick and the weather today is good. (Note: Japan had a three-day weekend from Oct. 11-13. At the same time, a typhoon passed through Japan.) We’d like to introduce a video to follow up such a three-day weekend. This is “Old Super Mario,” a derivative work that was completely drawn by the person who created the video.
The story is of a Mario who has become old and lonely after Princess Peach, who should have been with Mario, married Mario’s younger twin brother, Luigi. Then, he learns that Princess Peach is in danger. With a crooked back, Mario finally stands up and just like the moment he heard of danger when he was young, he took off jumping and sprinting like the real Super Mario.
This short video is four minutes in length and is dialogue free, but it succeeds in conveying something through drawings. The following is what the creator had to say about the work:
“This was my first time attempting something that fuses digital music and hand-drawn artwork, and it was somewhat difficult because there really isn’t a model for how to do that. The thoughts I received of it seemingly being a mix of Belgian and French comics with the characteristics of Japan left an impression on me. There are scenes that show for just a moment Yoshi and Wario, so I think you’ll enjoy watching it while looking for them.”
