On May 24, it was announced that Mario, main character of the hugely popular Nintendo game series Super Mario Bros., is now releasing worldwide for the first time as a full action figure, “S.H.Figuarts Mario.”
Included with the figure are a Super Mushroom, a Coin Block, and a coin. Also, two sets of optional parts that let you recreate the world of the series even further with a Goomba, Green Shell, Warp Pipe, and more will release at the same time.
Also released is an original, commemorative movie with music by Mr. Sakamoto, the musician who arranged and composed the game music for the series.
The video uses a “3D Zoetrope,” a spinning animation device, to create a video using the device, strobe lighting, and the “S.H.Figuarts Mario” figure. This video was exhibited at the event “Tamashii Summer Collection 2014” held on May 10 and 11, where it picked up attention.
The World’s First! A Full Action Figure of Mario
“S.H.Figuarts Mario” is from the popular figure series S.H.Figuarts developed by Bandai’s Collectors Division, and it is the world’s first full action figure of Mario.
Recreate More of the World of Super Mario Bros.!
Releasing at the same time as “S.H.Figuarts Mario” are two playsets that come with optional parts for recreating the world of Super Mario Bros.
You Can Play! Playset A
Playset A comes with a Coin Block, Brick Blocks, and support pieces. With this set, you can pose Mario jumping up to the blocks.
You Can Play! Playset B
Playset B comes with a Warp Pipe, Green Shell, and hand parts for holding the shell. With this set, you can pose Mario jumping into the Warp Pipe or throwing the shell.
However, take note that the playsets do not come with the figure of Mario.
