The Evangelion Store re-opened in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro P’Parco on Oct. 3. The store offers the same selection of attractive products to entice Evangelion fans as the Harajuku location, which unfortunately closed its doors in June 2014. Approximately 200 people lined up outside on opening day, and the store bustled with people looking to buy goods right as the store opened.
The store, which can easily be found by the life-size Rei Ayanami statue standing in front, is packed with numerous products, including clothing items, suitcases, stationery, smartphone covers and precious metal accessories. November will mark the third-year anniversary for the planning of the Evangelion Store, so 10 items were unveiled, such as hoodies, clear files and T-shirts, to commemorate the occasion. Products flew off the shelves as soon as the doors opened.
Mr. Kamimura, the president of GroundWorks, which oversaw the re-opening of the store, gave some background about the Ikebukuro branch, stating, “By moving away from Shibuya and Harajuku, where we opened previous locations, to Ikebukuro, where many young fans gather, we hope to expand and develop new customers.” With a smile on his face, he offered these comments to Eva fans visiting from Japan and abroad: “Through Evangelion merchandise, [the store] offers a new way of enjoying the animation and images. If you come to visit, I think you’re certain to get a taste of Evangelion you’ve never had before.”
