“The Ball is Your Friend. Captain Tsubasa Exhibit,” a large-scale exhibit introducing the charms of soccer and Yoichi Takahashi’s popular sports manga Captain Tsubasa, will be held at the Ueno Royal Museum in Tokyo beginning on June 14. European soccer club FC Barcelona will appear at the exhibit. This came about from the “Tsubasa in Barcelona Corner” which FC Barcelona consented to. This is a collaboration between a popular soccer manga and a real soccer team.
“The Ball is Your Friend. Captain Tsubasa Exhibit” is being held as the first Captain Tsubasa exhibit of its size. In addition to there being over 200 original illustrations on display, author Takahashi is creating a gigantic original illustration just for the exhibit. There will also be a life-size statue of main character Tsubasa Ozora, a diorama of his hometown Nankatsu, soccer attractions, and more.
Another highlight is the breadth of influence Captain Tsubasa has had on soccer worldwide. A video will play during the exhibit of top soccer players commenting on the influence Captain Tsubasa has had on them. The FC Barcelona Corner ties in with this. It was implemented under the concept that Tsubasa Ozora is a player on FC Barcelona in the work. Consent was obtained from the same club for this concept back in 2003. This shows the popularity of the world of Captain Tsubasa.
A cutout of Tsubasa Ozora wearing an FC Barcelona uniform will be included in the FC Barcelona Corner. Appearing alongside him will be cutouts of current top players who play for the same club. Visitors will be able to take commemorative photos will the lineup. There will also be an introduction to FC Barcelona through a panel exhibit, a recreation of the Camp Nou locker room, and more.
The Captain Tsubasa Exhibit will be held from June 14 (Sat.) to July 6 (Sun.). The exhibit looks to be an atmosphere that can be enjoyed by manga and soccer fans young and old.
