The new anime event AnimeJapan 2014, the world’s largest anime event, was held for two days on March 22 and 23 at Tokyo Big Sight in Ariake.
AnimeJapan was born from the unification of Anime Contents Expo (ACE), a large-scale animation-related exhibition event held at Makuhari Messe, and Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF), an anime event that also served as a trade fair for companies. It aims to expand and encourage the Japanese anime industry, and there were roughly 145 companies exhibiting.
What sets the event apart is the breadth of its content. Just like the motto “Here is everything about anime” says, the halls were completely packed with anime content, from stage events to anime goods shops, a cosplay area, seminars for businesses, charity auctions, and more. The booths of Aniplex, Good Smile Company, and Kadokawa were especially flooded with fans. At each of the booths, information regarding new anime, original pictures for popular titles, and original goods were spread out.
The special collaborations that took place limited to this event are also worthy of attention. There were items of characters from different works carrying out unusual collaborations.
AnimeJapan managed to reach Comic Market’s level of frenzy, and even though it was held for the first time, it left us with the premonition that it will become a must-see event for anime fans in the future.
