A new otaku event called AnimeJapan 2014 (AJ2014) will be held for two days from March 22-23. It will be held at the same venue as Comic Market: Tokyo Big Sight.
The goal of the event is the growth and promotion of Japan’s anime industry. It is projected to be one of the largest scale anime events in the world directed at anime fans, licensees, and buyers both domestic and foreign. The number of companies participating comes in at 145.
The theme of the event is “All that is anime, is right here.” Along the lines of this theme, in addition to the company display booths will be a huge variety of content for both businesses and consumers. There will be seminars introducing the current status of the domestic and foreign anime business and examples of success, announcements of new works by anime-related businesses and organizations, goods for sale, screenings of several masterpiece anime including the ‘90s classics Sailor Moon and Neon Genesis Evangelion, and more. A total of 42 stage events will be held across three stages––Red, Green, and Blue––which can accommodate roughly 50,000 guests. There will also be a cosplay area. In all, AJ 2014 is shaping up to be a perfectly highlight-packed event.
