The title for the new Sailor Moon series to begin broadcasting this July has been announced. That name is Sailor Moon Crystal. According to the production company, the title reflects the fact that the story of the Sailor Scouts has and will always be transparent, and this is projected as a “crystal.” It’s an appropriate title for the series considering that it still hasn’t faded in the 22 years since the manga began serialization, and it is still tremendously popular worldwide.

This image is represented in the key visual that was also released at the same time as the title announcement. Depicted in the middle is Sailor Moon reaching high for the Silver Crystal. It also shows that Sailor Moon watches over the moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus. The Silver Crystal is an object with the power to purify the world, and it will likely be an important item in the anime. There is plenty of content that has never appeared in Sailor Moon before to look forward to.

The release of this attention-grabbing show will take place in July, in line with previous announcements. It will be distributed simultaneously worldwide via the Dwango-managed video distribution site, Nico Nico Douga. It seems it is their aim for fans of this work from not just Japan, but all over the world to be able to enjoy the new anime at the same time. Will it air on TV? Or will it be taken up by distribution services? There are still many questions, but new information will be released very soon on the official site of the 20th anniversary project.

The anime will also be on show at the large-scale anime event AnimeJapan 2014 to be held at Tokyo Big Sight on March 22 and 23. There will be an introduction to the anime at the Toei Animation booth in East Hall 6. There will likely be new information here as well, so if you are going to AnimeJapan 2014, make sure to stop by the booth.
