Takara Tomy’s First Bishoujo-Type Card Game, WIXOSS, to Operate Together with Anime

Selector Infected WIXOSS, an original late-night anime by Warner and Takara Tomy, will begin broadcasting this April. On April 26, the bishoujo-type trading card game WIXOSS will also go on sale. WIXOSS will likely pick up attention for being Takara Tomy’s first bishoujo-type card game.

Selector Infected WIXOSS is a bishoujo battle anime being created by a talented staff that includes Takuya Satō of Say “I Love You” fame as director and Mari Okada of True Tears fame as series composer.

WIXOSS is a card game with an original story in which the anime’s female characters will appear. Players will each have a deck of 40 cards and will fight against opponents by placing cards in an area between them and their opponent called the Battle Zone. Cards will each have different levels, attack strengths, and special abilities, and players are free to craft a deck of their choosing. Lastly is a type of card called “Rurigu” that completely destroys all your opponent’s shields. The first player who succeeds in landing a direct attack against their opponent wins.

The card game’s system was developed collaboratively with analog game maker Hobby Japan. Because of this, a high level of strategy and deep game system were realized. The cards also have a high design sense and collectability due to artwork by popular artists including Rui Araizumi and Pop.

Takara Tomy is a toy maker well known for its trading card game targeted toward young boys called Duel Masters. The main target for WIXOSS is males from their mid teens to 30s, and it seems like the company is capitalizing on its abilities. Target sales for WIXOSS for the first year is 1 million cards. The expected retail price is ¥300 excluding tax.
