This time, we’d like to introduce the Demon King Piccolo arc of the manga version of Dragon Ball.
The 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament ends with Tenshinhan as the victor and Son Goku as the runner up. Immediately following this, Krillin is killed by an unknown person. Goku goes off in search of his murderer, but because he is tired from the fight, both him and Nimbus are defeated. It is revealed that the murderer is Tambourine who is a underling of Demon King Piccolo, once the most feared being in the world. Piccolo was once imprisoned by Master Roshi’s teacher, Mutaito, however he is freed by the work of Emperor Pilaf and his minions.
Goku recovers his strength by helping himself to Yajirobe’s provisions and ends up crushing Tambourine, after which he is brutally defeated by Demon King Piccolo. Master Roshi, who tries once again to imprison Piccolo, is also killed. At this rate, it seems the worst case scenario will be realized: Demon King Piccolo will regain his full strength by using the Dragon Balls. In order to stand a chance again Demon King Piccolo, Goku travels to Karin Tower and drinks a sacred water called Chōshinsui that is rumored to unlock dormant potential. The powered-up Goku travels a great distance and faces off with Piccolo again. He is able to defeat Piccolo, but just before he dies he creates an offspring.
Three years later, Goku, who has spent the time training at the hand of God and has grown in both body and mind, participates once more in the World Martial Arts Tournament. At the tournament are also Krillin and Goku’s other friends who were all revived by using the Dragon Balls. Demon King Piccolo’s son, Piccolo Jr., is also there. Who will win the tournament and hold the fate of the world in their hands?
