Anohana the Movie to Release in 83 Theaters Throughout US, Canada, and Mexico

Anohana the Movie has become a huge hit since it released in Japan on Aug. 31, making over ¥1 billion in box office revenue. Now, the movie is jumping the pond to North America. It has been announced that the movie will be released in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. Even though Japanese anime is highly popular overseas, for an animated movie to be released theatrically overseas, it must be something special. Most of the time, anime that is highly popular in Japan is only sold as a Blu-ray or DVD or distributed overseas. Anohana the Movie is now surmounting this wall.

Currently, the movie is planned to release in 83 theaters in total: 28 in the U.S., 35 in Canada, and 20 in Mexico. Worthy in particular of attention is that the movie is also being released in Mexico, which is a rare case when it comes to Japanese anime. For anime fans in these countries, this is a rare chance to enjoy an animated film on the big screen. The reactions fans will have to this is also a point we are curious about.

A reason for this overseas expansion stems from the fact that knowledge of late-night anime has increased due to it being distributed in foreign countries at the same time it is broadcast in Japan. This decision was further backed by the huge success the 2012 and 2013 Madoka Magica movies had in the U.S. Anohana the Movie is continuing this experiment of releasing animated movies overseas. It’s anticipated that even more works will be connected to this experiment from here on.
