“A Cruel Angel’s Thesis,” “Senbonzakura,” and "Feuerroter Pfeil und Bogen" Grab the Top Spots on the 2013 Joysound Yearly Ranking

Overall Karaoke Ranking

On Dec. 2, Xing announced the 2013 Joysound Yearly Ranking. The results were aggregated from Jan. 1 to Nov. 30 based on song playback numbers on the commercial karaoke series Joysound and UGA. The ranking shows the karaoke songs that were the most popular this year. It also shows a trend toward anime and Vocaloid songs.

One thing to notice on this year’s Joysound Yearly Ranking is that anime songs were strong contenders. This can be seen on the Overall Karaoke Ranking on which two anime songs ranked in the top 10: “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis” which came in second and "Feuerroter Pfeil und Bogen" which came in sixth. Other anime songs on this ranking include “Lion” at No. 14, “Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari” at No. 16, “Only My Railgun” at No. 27, “God Knows…” at No. 28, and “Genesis of Aquarion” at No. 29.

The No. 2 song, the Neon Genesis Evangelion theme song “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis” (Yōko Takahashi), has ranked No. 1 for seven consecutive years on the Anime/SFX/Game Ranking. This year as well, it kept a strong foothold.

The No. 6 song, the Attack on Titan theme song "Feuerroter Pfeil und Bogen" (Linked Horizon), is a song that was just released this year. It put up a strong fight and became a staple among karaoke songs. The song shockingly grabbed the No. 1 spot when it debuted on June 5, dethroning Golden Bomber’s song “Memeshikute” which held the top spot on the Weekly Ranking for 36 weeks, from Sept. 2012 to May of this year. Due to its anticipated appearance on Kōhaku Uta Gassen during New Year’s, the song’s popularity seems likely to continue.

“Genesis of Aquarion,” which ranked 29th in the Overall Karaoke Ranking, came in at No. 8 in the Anime/SFX/Game Ranking, whereas “Lie,” the theme song to Fullmetal Alchemist, came in at No. 5.

A full lineup of Vocaloid songs also made it onto the 2013 Joysound Yearly Ranking. One such song, “Senbonzakura,” ranked at No. 3 in the Overall Karaoke Ranking and No. 1 for the second year in a row in the Vocaloid Ranking. The song also continues to be a staple in the Utasuki Video Ranking as the No. 1 song. The No. 1 artist in that same ranking is Nana Mizuki, who also shouldn’t be missed.
