Beginning with Ritsu Tainaka in the anime series K-On!, popular seiyū Satomi Satō has voiced main characters in a variety of works. Now, she is starting a new project. This was announced midday on Nov. 8 when the homepage for a new Starchild project opened. The project has launched and is gaining attention for keeping information under wraps, only hinting that a huge announcement will take place on Dec. 8. However, new information on the project will be slowly released each week.
Satomi Satō debuted as a seiyū in 2007. Satō skillfully acts as lively characters, a prime example of this being her role as Ritsu Tainaka, the president of the light music club, in the anime K-On! which started in 2009. Also, she contributed to the series’ success as a member of the music unit Houkago Tea Time––along with Aki Toyosaki (Yui Hirasawa), Yōko Hikasa (Mio Akiyama), Minako Kotobuki (Tsumugi Kotobuki), and Ayana Taketatsu (Azusa Nakano)––which has released several CDs. Along with the other members of the group, she was awarded the Best Musical Performance award at the 4th Seiyū Awards. She went on to voice a wide variety of roles to which she received acclaim, including Manami Tamura in Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai and Wendy Marvell in Fairy Tail. She was awarded the Best Rookie Actress award at the 5th Seiyū Awards. Satō is a female seiyū who possesses both popularity and skill.
Even outside the realm of anime, Satō has experience performing on a variety of radio shows. Beginning with acting as an assistant personality on Miki Tomokazu’s Radio Big Bang, she has also displayed her silver tongue on such shows as the K-On! web radio show Raji-On! and Satomi Satō’s Sugar Pot. We are curious to see what kind of project Satō, who has fascinated fans with her diverse activities, is challenging herself with this time. Look forward to the big announcement on Dec. 8.
