Wow! With this, the future is already in our hands!
An ingenious person has developed the dream system called “Miku Miku Akushu” that allows the user to shake hands with Hatsune Miku using a head-mounted display and a touch interface.
You hold a device that imitates a hand and push and pull just as if you were shaking hands...and projected just across your glasses, Miku moves with you!

Give the hand a strong tug and Miku will look at you with a distrustful face. Steadily move your hand up and down and she will give you a wide smile! Whoaaa~~~! Hey, mom, here! I found a wife so you don’t need to worry anymore!!!

The head-mounted display device used in this system is the Oculus Rift. Not only does it project a huge image in front of your eyes, but thanks to the head tracking technology, your point of view changes as you move your head. In other words, this is a VR headset that allows you to enter a virtual world. If you look down, you see Miku’s feet, and if you look forward, you can see her face… what a beautiful future!

The part that imitates the sensation of shaking hands is the 3D touch interface Novint Falcon input device consisting of a flexible arm capable of various movements with a grip at its end that transmits the user’s actions to Miku, who is on the other side of the screen. Using the feedback function through its internal motor, Novint Falcon is able to recreate the sensation and resistance you feel when touching a 3D object. With this, Miku feels even more real!
This system was introduced at the event Oculus Festival in Japan, where attendees could experience the world of Oculus Rift. You can read the full story leading up to its debut in the Togetter summary. It is said that the Miku Miku Akushu system was developed by an Oculus Rift user named @GOROman in one night’s time. One day, VR and extended reality might leave the boundaries of research and development labs, get cheaper, and become a natural part of our everyday lives.
