Yasuomi Umetsu has fans all over the world for “Presence,” a short featured in Robot Carnival and Kite. He is active as an animator and a director. However, up until now, he hasn’t directed many TV anime, which makes the long-awaited TV series Wizard Barristers: Benmashi Cecil, which will start next year, particularly big news.
Umetsu’s new anime Wizard Barristers: Benmashi Cecil was announced at Pony Canyon’s booth at Comiket 84, which was held between Aug. 10 and 12 at Tokyo Big Sight. The show is set to broadcast from 2014. At the same time, the official site has also opened and started distributing information.
A promotional video was recently uploaded to the official site, and it was also revealed that Arms Corporation will be producing the anime and that its slogan will be “Sudo Cecil, entering the courtroom!” It looks like a legal series that takes places in a different dimension. However, there is very little information besides that Umetsu will be directing the series and, from the title, that the protagonist will be Sudo Cecil. We will have to wait for upcoming announcements.
On the other hand, director Umetsu released the following comment regarding the show.

Yasuomi Umetsu has been active as an animator since the 1980s. His characters have a unique cool and erotic atmosphere around them. As a director, he made his name known with Presence in Robot Carnival, and after that, he received praise for Kite and Mezzo Forte. He hasn’t directed many works, but the production of Galilei Donna, a new TV series starting this October, was just announced recently as well. Wizard Barristers is the next work he will direct, and also something fans can’t miss out on. In 2013 and 2014, we will be on the watch for new developments of original anime series and other activities by director Umetsu.
