Gen Urobuchi from “MadoMagi” and “Gargantia” to Work on New “Kamen Rider” Series

The 15th Heisei-era Kamen Rider has been revealed. The title of the work is Kamen Rider Gaim. The show will begin broadcasting on Oct. 6 and will broadcast every Sunday from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Asahi networks.

The new Kamen Rider was designed in the style of an armored warrior. Several rival riders will also appear, all themed after fruit. These riders use a “Lock Seed” to transform and battle using weapons also themed after their fruit.

The scriptwriter of the show is picking up attention from fans for his surprising and novel combination of armor and fruit. In charge of the script for the show is Gen Urobuchi. Urobuchi is a scenario writer belonging to the game production company, Nitroplus. He is active in the fields of games, anime, and novels and has worked on many big hit works including Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, Psycho-Pass, and Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, which has netted him many fans. Though he has previous experience writing for the hero action anime Blassreiter, Kamen Rider Giam is Urobuchi’s first time working on a special effects hero show, so many fans have voiced their anticipation for the work.

Since it’s general knowledge among fans that Urobuchi often kills off main characters in his stories, anticipation is also building to see who will be the victim in this new Kamen Rider.

Starting in 2000 with the show Kamen Rider Kuuga, the Heisei-era Kamen Rider series is known for being a springboard that launches the careers of young actors. Actors who have gotten their big break from the series include Takeru Satō, Joe Odagiri, and Kento Handa. Playing Kamen Rider Gaim (Kōta Kazuraba) in this new work is Gaku Sano, a young actor who started as a Junon Boy and successfully made his drama debut in 2012. Look forward to seeing how this young actor matures due to this role.
