Otaku Girls Choose! 10 Anime Otaku Girls Want to Watch with Boys [2 of 3]

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Boyfriend! ★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Guy friends!

Sattomii: To me, SAC is an anime I fell in love with at first sight. No matter which part you take – graphics, direction, music, or dialogue – all of them are cool. The members of Section 9 are all cool, and I think guys would also admire that, so I want to get fired up and yell “Cool!” together! Then, I want to be infatuated together with Tachikoma!

Misamisa: This work takes the goodness of anime to its maximum. I love that futuristic style. Various cloud services have been completed recently, and although this is an exaggeration, isn’t that like putting your head on some network? I think our reality is getting closer and closer to the world shown in Ghost in the Shell. Since you can talk about sci-fi stories like that endlessly, maybe you’ll want to watch it together and talk it over.

Sattomii: This is not about the anime, but the original manga also has quite an influence on reality. For instance, they equipped a Prius with an optical disguise seen in the manga.

Misamisa: I think it also has an influence on me.

Sattomii: Me too. It led me to read Catcher in the Rye.

Eureka Seven
Boyfriend! ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆ Guy friends!

Sattomii: I think Eureka is about Renton and Eureka growing up. It has 50 episodes, so it might be a bit long, but usually after watching it, you can feel that somehow you yourself also became bigger, just like Renton. Also, I could sympathize with how Eureka felt about Renton, but Renton is a boy, so there must be a lot of things I don’t understand. So, I want to ask a guy about that kind of stuff!

Misamisa: Certainly. It is precisely because it takes it slow and tells the story in 50 episodes that you can share the feeling of growing up. Although It’s basically the story of those two growing up, I’m an Anemone fan, so to speak. The one whose feelings I can absolutely sympathize with is Anemone, and I think episode 48 was wonderful.

Sattomii: That scene is so awesome! Anemoneee!

Misamisa: Dominiiic!

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
Boyfriend! ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆ Guy friends!

Misamisa: Code Geass is your recommendation, right, Sattomii?

Sattomii: Yes (laughs). It’s not your Kare Kano, but I’m so attached to this anime emotionally that I can’t even count how many times I’ve watched it. When it aired, I couldn’t wait for the next episode, I’ve never felt one week could be so long. The land battles, which are rare in recent robot anime, are pretty cool, and I think a boy would also respond the same way.

Misamisa: I think Code Geass is an anime that makes me want to talk about “justice” together. Don’t all the characters have their own sense of justice?

Sattomii: Certainly. And all of their senses of justice are about unrequited love (laughs). The script is awesome, too. With all those twists and turns and missing each other, you never know what is about to come!

Steins;Gate
Boyfriend! ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ Guy friends!

Misamisa: In Steins;Gate, there are a lot of keywords that are doubtful, that make you think, “Really?” When you try and google those words, it will turn into a world where you think those things are really possible, and you cannot help but feel that it’s linked to reality. And there’s that feeling of the second year of junior high (laughs).

Sattomii: Although it’s fiction, it seemed awfully real. It’s a world you wish was true.

Misamisa: Yeah. And you can talk about if you want to return to the past.

Sattomii: Good idea. With a bottle of Dr. Pepper (laughs).

Misamisa: Also, this happened in real life that I asked someone, “Can I change your world line?” and he replied, “Meeting you, Misako, changed my world line” (laughs). I was very happy about that.

Gurren Lagann
Boyfriend! ★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Guy friends!

Sattomii: Gurren Lagann is hot. Especially among robot anime. I want to watch it and get excited together.

Misamisa: It has so much power in it that could heal a cold!

Sattomii: That’s an interesting allegory (laughs). But it’s certainly not simply hot, it also gives you spirit. The maker’s power comes through very well. In that sense, I’m also looking forward to Kill la Kill, which is made by the same production team.

Misamisa: Before, we talked about Eureka being the story of the protagonists growing up. I think Gurren Lagann is also kind of about the growth of Kamina and Simon. You get so excited, you want to press on, but it also moves you. Watching this with a boy would be invigorating.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Boyfriend! ★★★★★★★★☆☆ Guy friends!

Sattomii: Personally, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is an anime i want to watch when summer comes. In that aspect, I’m also thinking about Summer Wars...

Misamisa: Let’s just go with The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. You like Chiaki, don’t you? (laughs)

Sattomii: Yeah, thanks (laughs). It would be so nice to be told, “I’ll be waiting for you in the future.”

Misamisa: You join Makoto and shout, “Chiakiiii!”

Sattomii: Yeah! It depicts youth in a nice way, and especially because of the transition from friendship to love, it would make your heart beat fast if you watched it with a guy!

Misamisa: I can relate to that. Whether your partner is your boyfriend or a friend, both would be fun.
