“2D vs. Japanese Swords Exhibit,” an exhibit of works from manga artists and illustrators themed around Japanese swords will be held from July 13 to Sept. 16. The exhibit will be held simultaneously at three locations within Okayama Prefecture: the Hayashibara Museum of Art (Okayama City), the Bizen Osafune Japanese Sword Museum, and the Setouchi City Museum of Art (until Sept. 1 at this location).
On display at the exhibit will be works by creators that are based on Japanese swords made by current swordsmiths and master craftsmen of antiquity displayed together with the swords used as their motifs. Participating creators include Yoshitaka Amano, Rumiko Takahashi, Ryoichi Ikegami, Yuji Kaida, and Kazuo Koike. The items on display will differ at each location, and each location will take on a different theme: the Hayashibara Museum of Art will take on the past, the Bizen Osafune Japanese Sword Museum will take on the present, and the Setouchi City Museum of Art will take on the future. Events including dressing up in armor and discussions are also planned.
The entrance fee is 300 yen for the Setouchi City Museum of Art exhibit, and 700 yen for the other two. Advance tickets to all three locations are also being sold for 1,400 yen. While supplies last, attendees will also receive an original clear file, the design to which will differ depending on the location.
