On YouTube’s main battle ground, there is an unusual family that’s trying to live only on video posting advertising fees. Going by the name Mosogourmet, they call themselves “everyday family YouTubers.”
As a family of five, Mosogourmet uploads character bento cooking videos. The children happily exhibit the character bentos that they make each day. The mother is in charge of the cooking, while the father looks after recording and editing. More than 550,000 people have watched the videos and 40,000 users have selected them as popular content.
When they started posting the videos, character bento weren’t that new in society. In the beginning, people posted photographic slideshows, but before long moved from photos to videos. In addition, the character bentos that have gotten attention had high quality, but looks were more important than eating them. Therefore, many of the bentos were designed so that the lid could not be closed. Rather than focusing on visual quality, Mosogourmet’s character bento are more like real bento - a stance that is appreciated by their viewers.
Mosogourmet’s bentos are actually made with the intention of pleasing their children. They reflect the business of a real life, of having no time in the mornings and no time to introduce a recipe. They were also interviewed by NHK under the theme of “bento from the heart.”
There is a family that is trying to live only through posting videos on YouTube. This is a reality.
