How to Make a Bento of Hatsune Miku!

Recently, the charaben fad in Japan has become popular in America. Charaben is a combination of the words character and bento. It’s an art form of expressing anime, game, or manga characters as bentos using various ingredients. The Japan pop culture site Kawaii Kakkoii Sugoi based in Los Angeles has uploaded various charaben tutorials to YouTube. We’d like to share their Hatsune Miku charaben tutorial.

The tutorial is easy to follow and even explains in detail how to make Hatsune Miku’s blue hair. This splendid bento doesn’t look like it can be recreated with ordinary ingredients, but you can make it easily in your own kitchen.

To make Miku, all you need are eggs, white cheese, food coloring, and nori. The first step is making her hair. Simply mix together the white of an egg and blue food coloring, and lightly fry it in a pan. Next, wrap the blue, fried egg in Saran Wrap. Using a Miku picture of your choice, trace out Miku’s hair with a sharp knife. Repeat this process with a piece of cheese to create her body, and with the nori for her clothing and facial details. Lastly, assemble the pieces for an exquisitely reproduced Miku! Since the ingredients are simple to find, why not take the challenge and try making one yourself?
