Creators from Various Genres Talk About “Evangelion” in Special Issue of Black Past

On April 28 at Nico Nico Cho Kaigi 2, a special edition of the magazine Black Past that focused solely on Evangelion went on sale. The issue features interviews with voice actress Chiaki Kuriyama and author Hiroki Azuma, roundtable discussions looking at Evangelion novels, and more.

Black Past launched in 2011 and is independently produced by critic and author Shusei Sakagami. Popular creators who have participated in the magazine to talk about the current subculture include Gen Urobuchi, who worked on the scenario for Puella Magi Madoka Magica; Kinoko Nasu, a scriptwriter who has worked on such series as Kara no Kyokai and Fate; composer and producer Chiyomaru Shikura; Shimoku Kio, author of the otaku-themed popular comic K-On!; editor Akio Nakamori; and others.

The special Eva edition of Black Past features discussions and manga reviews from specialists in a variety of genres, including popular novelists Kuro Oma and Kisetsu Morita, psychiatrist Tamaki Saito, and movie history researcher Daisuke Watanabe.

Following Nico Nico Cho Kaigi 2, the magazine was put up for consignment sale at select Toranoana and Junkudo stores.
