All throughout the world, Japanese anime and anime songs are gathering attention, and foreign anime fans and cosplayers are increasing. Among them are people whose initial interest in anime blooms into an interest in the country of Japan and the Japanese language.
Beam-chan from Thailand is one of these fans and also a talented anime singer. She is a champion at anime song karaoke conventions in Thailand and performs as a Thai representative at Japan’s various anime song concerts. Also, she studied abroad at a Japanese university where she studied Japanese. She doesn’t just stop at being a foreigner who loves anime, she is also very talented.
Her interest in Japan dates back to around her elementary years when she read Doraemon in Thai. She had an interest in Japanese greetings and expressions, so she started studying Japanese. Thereafter, she gained various experience, and three years ago studied abroad as an exchange student at the University of Tokyo. She then returned to Thailand and participated in many concerts, including anime song concerts. Just last year, she also began to challenge herself by starting to cosplay.
Beam-chan will be studying once again this spring at the University of Tokyo and enjoying life in Japan. She recently set a goal to make her own Japanese language school in Japan. As the first step, she gave herself the name BeamSensei and is sharing her experience in Japan with people in Thailand via her Facebook page, where she explains one word in Japanese in Thai everyday.
At university, she is doing research into Thai Japanese language student vocabulary acquisition, and she will take a graduate school exam in October. She still has many hopes including the self-challenge of novice cosplaying and anime song performances. The day may be near for this powerful woman, Japanese teacher, and anime song singer to have her dream realized.
