On March 30, Tecmo Koei Games held the Toukiden x Play.Community closed beta in Shinagawa, Tokyo for the new hunting-action PlayStation Vita and PSP game Toukiden. The event was organized into two sections: the announcement and the demo.
Toukiden is a hunting-action game. Players can join clans together as Mononofu to battle against demons. Up to four people can play together on PSP or PS Vita handhelds. The PS Vita “Infrastructure Mode” allows for players to recruit clan members online. Downloadable content is planned to release after the launch due to the online nature of the game.
As announced at the demo event, the game will launch in Japan on June 27 and a limited edition “Playstation Vita (WiFi) Toukiden Demon Design” will also release.
The work’s general producer Koinuma Hisashi chose this hunting-action game as a new self-challenge. He also produced the popular series Musou, a masterpiece of the Omega Force team. For Toukiden, Tecmo Koei Games’ fortes of Japanese-style aspects and history were used to create a new hunting-action game. Producer Kenichi Ogasawara spoke about the work’s charm, stating, “There are six systems and over 400 weapons and special moves bestowed upon players by “Mitama.” It is full of variety and offers fresh battles to enjoy.”
During the demo portion of the event, players were able to experience a demo of the game on a PS Vita and enjoy a double battle with a Mifuchi, a spider-like demon, and a Gouenma, a human-like demon. A special feature in the game is how demons are destroyed. Players don’t just strike the demon to inflict damage, but must cut off its limbs to deal heavy damage to its health. After a fixed amount of time, cut-off limbs will be restored. However, if players use the “Demon Exorcism” action, they can damage the severed limbs.
Toukiden has an eerily immersive player experience and cool design. Everyone overseas, please experience this Japanese-style hunting-action game by the same team who created Musou at least once for yourself.
