Application Period Begins for 7th Animax Anison Grand Prix! Smartphone App Also Launches!

Applications are finally being accepted for this year’s Animax Anison Grand Prix, the contest that has brought to the world many anime song (anison) artists. As always, it is a big audition where the winner gets to make a pro debut with a new anime.

Animax Anison Grand Prix started in 2007 with the motto “Make your pro debut with an anime song!” As it is a periodically organized audition limited to anime songs only, it is very well-known. In 2012, it became Japan’s largest scale anime song audition, with more than 10,000 groups entering the competition.

2013 will be the seventh year the contest is held. It is being organized by the anime channel Animax and has been officially titled “7th Animax Anison Grand Prix Supported by Hikari TV.” The application period started on April 8. Japan’s No. 1 singer will be decided through a preliminary round and a final contest, all of which will be broadcast live.

Another specialty of this contest is that the winner is guaranteed the ability to perform the theme song of an upcoming new anime. Natsumi Okamoto, who is last year’s winner, is making her pro debut with an anime airing this year.

Applications can be sent by mail, mobile phone, PC, and karaoke box (Utasuki Douga). Also, starting this year, applying through Koebu can now be done through a smartphone app by recording a song less than five minutes in length.

The deadline for applications is May 31, except for karaoke boxes (Utasuki Douga) and Koebu, so be careful. The screening stage will go from June to the beginning of July, and from the end of July to the beginning of August, the local preliminaries will be held in Sapporo, Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka. The final round will be held on Sept. 29 in Tokyo.

The live performances of the preliminaries and the final will also be streamed on the app, so download it and root for your favorites! Don’t miss out on the birth of the next anison star!
