Mirai, an electric motorcycle development company based in Ichinomiya, Aichi, announced its participation in this year’s Isle of Man TT race on March 19 at the Akiba Motor Show Cafe.
The Isle of Man TT is an overseas road race that takes place on the British-governed Isle of Man. It is a legendary race that has been held since 1904. This year, it will be held from May 31-June 8.
In 2011, the president of Mirai, Yoshihiro Kishimoto, became the first challenger from Japan to participate in the electric motorcycle race TT Zero Challenge. This year will be his third consecutive year participating in the race as team representative. The bike that will be used in the race is a collaboration with Good Smile Company and features Hatsune Miku. This collaboration has garnered the bike a great deal of attention. The bike features the body of the TT Zero, a highly competitive bike in its class, and drawings of Hatsune Miku, as well as uniquely implemented coloring that is reminiscent of Miku.
Kishimoto originally worked for the electric bike and car chemical supplies company Pro Staff. In 2011, he participated as a member of the company’s Team Prozza. The following year, he created the specialty company Mirai to develop the field of electric vehicle (EV) racing. The company challenges itself by participating in EV races. The rider chosen for the race is Yoshinari Matsushita, who has an abundance of experience even in the gasoline class of TT races.
