Short Peace, a collection of four short films by some of today’s greatest directors, will be released nationwide in Japan on July 20. A wonderful lineup of four directors are working on the project: Katsuhiro Otomo, Shuhei Morita, Hiroaki Ando, and Hajime Katoki. Furthermore, Koji Morimoto is helping produce the opening animation.
All four short films are independent works, but they all share the same theme of “Japan.” The focus of the works vary from traditional culture to history, subcultures, and even Japan’s future. Although Katsuhiro Otomo’s short film “Combustible” and Shuhei Morita’s short film “Tsukumo” have already been screened at animation festivals both inside and outside Japan, the films have yet to been screened to general audiences. These two films both picked up high praise at this year’s Japan Media Arts Festival, and fans have been maintaining high anticipation to see them.
Shedding light on the screenings of Hiroaki Ando’s “Gambo” and Hajime Katoki’s “A Farewell to Arms,” a presentation took place on March 22 on Stage A at the Tokyo International Anime Fair 2013. Expect more news on this to come, and don’t take your eyes off of these four great directors’ works.
