
On Jan. 31, 2013, producers, directors, and industry officials gathered to witness the debut of Toei Animation’s 2013 lineup of works at the Toei Lineup Presentation. This year, six anime works were announced.
At the event, details were finally unveiled on the full CG anime movie based on Leiji Matsumoto’s work Space Pirate Captain Harlock , tentatively titled Captain Harlock. The international trailer was screened, and director Shinji Aramaki talked about the movie, saying that it’s not a remake, but rather a reboot of the series. It was also revealed that the production cost of the movie was 30 million yen.
More was also revealed regarding Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, which is the first work in the popular Dragon Ball series in 17 years. It was announced that series creator Akira Toriyama is working extensively on the movie, from the story to the character designs.
Furthermore, movies for two of Osamu Tezuka’s works, Osamu Tezuka’s Waking Buddha (Tentative title) and the Shonen Jump comic Toriko, were announced. On top of this, information was unveiled on two books in the Precure series.
Judging from the presentation, Toei Animation’s lineup for this year certainly looks ironclad.
