On Jan. 25, 2013, in commemoration of the late Shotaro Ishinomori’s birthday, the American graphic novel version of Cyborg 009 was announced. Ishinomori is a pioneer in the world of manga, and is known for also creating the influential Kamen Rider series. He would have been 75 this year.
The graphic novel for Cyborg 009 will be available this summer from Archaia Studios Press. A preview of the graphic novel is now available on America’s largest digital comic distribution service, comiXology.
The digital preview is titled Cyborg 009: Chapter 000 and is 17 pages in length. Along with the preview, 61 pages of the original manga are also included. The cost of this set is moderately priced at US$2.99. The first volume of the graphic novel will go on sale in July at this year’s Comic Con in San Diego, California.
To date, English versions of a great number of Japanese manga have been released, but this is the first time one is being remade as a Western-style comic. It will be interesting to see what other new projects stem from this.
