World Cosplay Summit and Cosplay Championship to be Held in Nagoya in August

Since 2003, the World Cosplay Summit, an international Japanese pop culture event focused on cosplay, has been held in Nagoya as well as other cities in Japan. On Jan. 15, 2013, the World Cosplay Summit executive committee announced that the 11th World Cosplay Summit (WCS) and Cosplay Championship will take place on Aug. 3.

The event features cosplayers from all over the world who are nominated to compete in the competition through winning a preliminary round in their respective countries. Winners then become representatives of their respective countries and travel to Japan at the end of July to participate in the Cosplay Championship in Nagoya.

Everyone is wondering about this year’s Cosplay Championship and which countries will be competing. Similarly to last year, 20 countries will be competing this year. Many countries competing have a forte for cosplay, so expectations are high.

At last year’s WCS, aside from the Cosplay Championship, other events, including a cosplay parade, red carpet, cosplay carnival, and anime concert, were also held. Events such as these are also planned for this year’s WCS. The official site for this year’s WCS, which will contain the latest news on the event as well as news on the nominated contests, is planned to open soon.
