The Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Fest 2015, an event popular each year for its photo spots set up throughout Ikebukuro, is returning this year. The event will be held in the Ikebukuro East Entrance area for two days on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, and has received backup from the entire Toshima ward. The event is an appeal for fans of cosplay culture to enjoy it together in Ikebukuro, an area that rouses excitement for the pop culture of Japan.
The attendance at last year’s event was 52,000. The event is unique to the Ikebukuro area, a hotspot, beginning with “Otome Road,” for anime and manga, and even attracts many attendees from overseas. The event this year will be held over two days and similarly to previous years will be focused on the Ikebukuro East Entrance area. There will be a Halloween cosplay parade and even stage events including the “Niconico Cosplection.”
An opening ceremony will be held on Oct. 31, at which Toshima Mayor Yukio Takano, Animate CEO Minoru Sakashita, and Dwango CCO Daisuke Yokosawa will be on stage. Continuing from last year, the presenters will be in cosplay as well, so a highlight will be what cosplay they’ll be dressed in.
In addition to cosplayers, there will be cosplay floats and a flea market with a selection of cosplay goods and outfits. There will also be body painting, a Halloween lottery, and plenty of other festivities you’d expect at a festival. The scope of the festival is further enlarged with cosplayers being allowed into Seibu Ikebukuro Honten and Ikebukuro Parco in costume. It seems just like years past, the Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Fest will bring plenty of excitement to the area.
