One Piece Film Z was released in Japan on Dec. 15, 2012. On Dec. 13, more than 1,000 fans gathered in Roppongi, Tokyo for the “One Piece Award” event. With the dress code of the event set to pirate-themed attire, the event was engulfed in a strange but enthusiastic atmosphere. The entire voice cast of the Straw Hat Pirates appeared at the event, making their entrance on the “blue carpet”. The dedication and thoughtfulness of the cast had fans cheering.
During the private screening event’s stage greetings, each cast member took the stage as their respective characters and gave a speech in their character’s voice. However, Hiroaki Hirata, the voice actor for Sanji, committed a marvelously comical blunder when he took the stage saying Zoro’s famous line. Kazuya Nakai, the voice actor for Zoro, quickly jumped in and, in a true show of teamwork identical to their characters in the series, retorted, “If you forgot your lines, don’t mimic me!” Mayumi Tanaka, the voice of Luffy, then took the stage and riled up the crowd with repeated shouts. Including both the voice actors and the fans, the event had everyone feeling like they were important members in the pirate crew.
