Event Report: “Tokyo Manga and Anime Carnival in Toshima”

It seems like 2013 will be another busy year full of anime events!

From Feb. 1-2 in Toshima, Tokyo, the “Tokyo Manga and Anime Carnival in Toshima” took place. Centered around manga and anime that are focused on Ikebukuro, the event featured anime and manga shops from Toshima as well as other related activities.

The event included a commemorative event held at Toshima’s city hall, goods for sale, display booths, symposiums, and more. Many of the exhibitors were affiliated with the famous Tokiwa-so (an apartment complex in which many now famous manga artists used to live) and included manga artists, aspiring manga artists, and up-and-coming manga artists who were selling and displaying their goods. The event also had workshops and talk events. Many towns and wards in the area also had booths at the event including Chichifu, Chofu, and Nerima.

Animate also sponsored a commemorative event at the “Tokyo Manga and Anime Carnival in Toshima” for anime fans. The event was held in commemoration of the reopening of Animate Ikebukuro on Nov. 17, 2012. The store is currently the largest anime shop in the world.

Did you have a chance to attend the “Tokyo Manga and Anime Carnival in Toshima”? If not, don’t worry. There are plenty more anime events planned for 2013!
