Since its country-wide release in Japan on Nov. 17, 2012, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo has broken through 4.4 billion yen at the box office and gained an even bigger following than its predecessors. Several campaigns have also been launched as tie-ins with the movie.
One such campaign, a collaboration between Tokyo Skytree Town and Nico Nico Live, took place from Dec. 26-30. At the event, a 2 meter tall replica of Eva Unit 01 was dedicated and a “Niconico Eva Shrine” was erected.
The event was one part of the “Eva Unit 01 Reinforcement Project”, which toured the area around Tokyo before returning to the Tokyo Skytree Town for its closing ceremony. The ceremony was held in the four story Sky Arena plaza and the Eva Unit 01 replica was dedicated. Along with the dedication, a 3.6 meter replica of the Lance of Longinus was shown.
Those who stopped by the “Eva Shrine” on their way out of the Skytree Town received a special present. The first 500 people daily were given a special sticker based on the theme song to Evangelion: 3.0, Hikaru Utada’s “Sakura Nagashi”. Furthermore, the first 200 people daily to purchase a ticket to the Skytree Observation Deck received a limited pin badge of the event.
