The art is as it appears (which is beautiful in itself). But I can confirm that the acrylic art board material is gorgeous. It's sturdy and smooth to the touch, and the picture is extremely clear close-up, which you can't get from paper. Essentially the flat texture makes it feel high res. Love it!
