Hayao Miyazaki has created some truly enchanting characters over the years, but one of our favorites is the softest, cuddliest, most feline of public transports - the Catbus!

The Catbus can shapeshift to allow passengers inside and can run, fly, bounce, and hop across forests, lakes and rice fields to reach its destination.
It can take its passengers anywhere, even if the Catbus nor the passenger know how to get there, as in My Neighbor Totoro when Satsuki boards it in search of her sister Mei.
Its yellow eyes shine brightly like headlights, and mice with glowing eyes serve as its tail lights.
Its design is reminiscent of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland for its ability to appear and disappear at will and its wide grin.
It has been featured in pop culture including in The Simpsons episode “Married to the Blob,” on a multiplayer map in Team Fortress 2, and was used as the design for the six-legged sky bison Appa in Avatar the Last Airbender.
