Live Action Film Announced for Hara Yasuhisa's Kingdom!

A live action adaptation of Hara Yasuhisa’s action manga Kingdom has been announced!

Kingdom follows the story of Li Xin, a boy orphaned in the long period of violence that is the Warring State period of China. First serialized in Weekly Young Jump in Sept. 2006, it is still currently running.

While a live action short was released in 2016 to celebrate the series’ 10th anniversary, this time it will be a full length film. It also received a TV anime adaptation that was originally broadcast on NHK BS Premium from Jun. 2012 to Mar. 2014, spanning 77 episodes. It won Grand Prize in the 2013 17th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize and has printed over 35 million copies.

Hara took to Twitter to show his excitement by posting a special illustration, along with a heartfelt comment, the latter of which revealed that he would be involved with the creation of the script and story. No other details have been revealed yet, though he did mention that fans would be pleased with the casting decisions once revealed.
