The Rilakkuma franchise is celebrating its 15th anniversary… with its first ever anime adaptation! The series will be produced by Dwarf Studio, known for popular series such as Domo-kun (NHK’s mascot character) and Komaneko, and they will be using the latest stop motion technology to bring our favorite relaxation experts to life.
Rilakkuma first appeared in a picture book in 2003 and has since conquered the world with various products ranging from plushies to kitchenware.
One day, Rilakkuma mysteriously appeared in the apartment of an office lady, Kaoru. He was later followed by Korilakkuma, and now they are living a happy, chill life with Kaoru’s pet bird, Kiiroitori. Their days are far from boring, though, as Korilakkuma loves playing pranks on the lazy Rilakkuma, and Kiiroitori has his hands full trying to keep his friends at bay.
Not much has been revealed about the series as of yet, but it will be distributed in more than 190 countries on Netflix, so Rilakkuma can visit fans all around the world! Stay tuned for follow ups as more details will be coming soon!
