The popular manga and anime series Chibi Maruko-chan revolves around the everyday life of Momoko Sakura (fondly known as Maruko) and her family in suburban Japan in the 1970s. 2016 happens to be the 30th anniversary of the manga series, and the license owners of the series, Nippon Animation, decided to celebrate by releasing cat-inspired designs of Chibi Maruko-chan characters. In Japan, the sound that a cat makes is "nyan," so what better name for these purr-fect new character designs than "Chibi Maruko-nyan"?!
Thanks to a licensing agreement with Nippon Animation, the popular Harajuku sweet stores Marion Crepes and Totti Candy Factory have created scrumptious Maruko-nyan sweets for fans to enjoy! Chibi Maruko-nyan collaboration sweets will be available at Marion Crepes Harajuku Takeshita Street and Totti Candy Factory Harajuku from Saturday, Oct. 15 .
At Marion Crepes Harajuku, Maruko-nyan fans will be able to enjoy "Chibi Maruko-nyan's Calico Crepe" (¥750 including tax), a crepe topped with three different ice cream flavours, inspired by the tricolored coat of a calico (or tortoiseshell) cat. Totti Candy Factory Harajuku's Maruko-nyan inspired delights are delicious cake pops (bite-sized, lollipop-shaped cakes) based on Maru-nyan, Tama-nyan, and Noguchi-nyan (¥500 each including tax).
This promotion is being held to celebrate the Chibi Maruko-nyan Fair that's taking place at six Kiddyland stores (including Kiddyland Harajuku) from Saturday, Oct. 15 until Friday, Oct. 28, and it's the first time that Chibi Maruko-nyan collaboration products will be on sale since the series was announced in August this year.

With three different flavours of ice cream, paw-shaped candy, and Maru-nyan marshmallows, this yummy crepe is bursting with tasty treats!

Each of these adorable cake pops is hand decorated by a pastry chef. They were developed in collaboration with a patissier from a Michelin-starred French restaurant, so not only do they look incredible, but the rich cake inside tastes amazing too!
