It’s a Whole New Hello Kitty World! Junko Makino Collaboration Gives Hello Kitty a Modern Japonism Makeover!

D-Lights Creative, which handles the unisex brand Junko Makino, has teamed up with Sanrio’s popular Hello Kitty character for elegant leather backpacks which aims to bring modern Japonism to the world of Hello Kitty. Orders for the backpacks, which are designed by Junko Makino, are being accepted now until Oct. 3.

The backpacks are part of Sanrio’s Hello Kitty Japonism collection of licensed products which moves past Hello Kitty’s kawaii image to incorporate Japanese traditions and luxury.

The Hello Kitty crests have been entrusted to Gingam Japan which has received international praise for its Swarovski crimping technique with the embroidery handled by top class Japanese craftsmen.

The leather backpacks will be the first ever to represent adult luxury inspired by Japanese traditions.

Cute black and white twin backpacks really pop!

You can even enjoy the stylishness of the backpacks as a pair with your friend, partner, or child! Two colors in one bag or double up as twins in this elegant design.

High contrast black and white chessboard design with sparkly Swarovski crests

The black and white checkerboard design also features subtly embossed metallic Hello Kitty crests which perfectly bring out classical Japanese tradition.

The charm pattern has a cute gokan crest design which contrasts nicely with the shining Swarovski crystals.

There is also a silver leaf Hello Kitty logo attached to the inner lining of the bag, so there’s even more Hello Kitty hiding inside. Japanese high quality means high prices but the bags are set to debut in September 2016. The “Junko Makino ∞ Hello Kitty Twins Leather Backpacks” are available now and retail for 210,000 yen each (excluding tax).
