Shizuoka’s Gasho-an is set to team up with the Moshi Moshi Nippon Project to open the Gasho-an Harajuku Cafe inside the Moshi Moshi Box Harajuku tourist information center which is operated by Asobisytem. The cafe will be open for business from Aug. 1 until the end of September 2016 serving “wahyou” Japanese ice cream filled with the flavour of a Japanese summer and made with Shizuoka matcha.

The ice creams are sold by Gasho-an, a cafe serving teas and sweets to the people of Shizuoka for the past 65 years which is operated by tea company Oyaizu. As you would expect from a Shizuoka-based store, Gasho-an’s sweets are made with the highest grade matcha. Now for two months only the Gasho-an Harajuku Cafe will be offering “wahyou” Japanese ice cream and matcha sweets generously piled up on a special limited edition parfait.
The parfait comes with matcha honey shaved ice, matcha ice cream, the matcha baumkuchen “Chiyo no Wa” which won the 2015 Rakuten Gourmet Grand Prize, and the Monde Selection gold prize winner raw cream daifuku “Marifuku Koi Matcha.” Normally you’d only be able to sample a dessert such as this in Shizuoka, but for this summer only you can enjoy it in Harajuku too!
Harajuku Nippon Store
The Harajuku Nippon store was created under the supervision of TV producer Masato Ochi with the idea of transmitting the kawaii Harajuku culture to the outside world. Based in Moshi Moshi Box, the store aims to aid inbound tourism by promoting Japanese culture and local crafts spreading kawaii throughout the world along with Japanese materials and techniques.
