Yokai Densha Running Again This Summer, Service and Yokai Events Revealed!

Randen (Keifuku Electric Railroad Co., Ltd.) will be offering Randen Youkai Densha (Ranen Ghost Train) service and yokai events on its Arashiyama Main Line from Shijo-Omiya Station to Arashiyama Station.
 
The inside of the Randen Yokai Densha is decorated to look like a yokai home, and anyone dressed up will get a Yokai Fare discount. This special event happens every year alongside Obon, and this year marks its 10th anniversary. Celebrate it with extra-special service!

○ Randen Yokai Densha
1. Commemorating its 10th anniversary, the usual 50 yen Yokai Fare will be 10 yen.
2. There will be a retro train for the first time ever. It’s extra scary!
Service Period: Aug. 11–15

Service Schedule: Five trains each day. You will not be able to get off at in-between stations.
Arashiyama Station: 5:05 pm (4:35 pm) ⇒ Shijo-Omiya Station: 5:27 pm (4:57 pm)
Shijo-Omiya Station: 5:45 pm (5:15 pm) ⇒ Arashiyama Station: 6:07 pm (5:37 pm)
Arashiyama Station: 6:35 pm (6:05 pm) ⇒ Shijo-Omiya Station: 6:57 pm (6:27 pm)
Shijo-Omiya Station: 7:15 pm (6:48 pm) ⇒ Arashiyama Station: 7:37 pm (7:10 pm)
Arashiyama Station: 8:05 pm (7:45 pm) ⇒ Shijo-Omiya Station: 8:27 pm (8:07 pm)

Fare:
- Adults: 210 yen
- Children: 110 yen
- Commemorative Yokai Fare: 10 yen
● The Yokai Fare, a special fare for anyone clearly dressed as a yokai, will be 10 yen this year. If you’re recognized as a yokai, you’ll receive a 2016 Randen Yokai Certification Sticker.
● To ride, you’ll need a special Yokai Densha-exclusive passenger ticket. Ticket sales start at departure stations approx. 40 minutes before departure.

Trains: The Retro Train (Mobo Type-21) will be two linked cars. The inside is styled to be eerie for humans but will make yokai feel at home with decorations and background music to set the mood.

Yokai Event
~You’ll play the leading role on this year’s Yokai Densha in the Randen Yokai Costume Contest 2016~
This popularity contest will be for people dressed as yokai on the Yokai Densha. The first place winner will be the promotional model for next year’s Yokai Densha.

○ Entry: Aug. 11–15 from 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm
An official at Arashiyama Station’s commemorative Yokai Densha photo spot will take photos for entries. Anyone hoping to participate should fill out the necessary entry form.

○ Voting: Aug. 11–21
1. Ballot Box: There will be a photo display panel set up at Arashiyama Station featuring the entrants where you can vote. (Photos of each day’s entrants will be posted that same day after the service.)
2. Facebook: Photos of entrants will be posted on the fan album named Yokai Densha ni Arawareta Yokai (Ghosts Appearing on the Ghost Train), and likes will count as votes.

Selection: Announcement at the end of August 
1.First Place in the Popularity Contest: Decided based on votes by visitors
2. Special Prize (second Place): Chosen by Randen and the 100youbako (Yokai Fine Arts Organization)
*Each winner will receive a special commemorative panel with their photo as a yokai in it.*

~Enjoy Yokai at the Station~ Aug. 11–15
・Yokai Courage Test and Yokai Ceramic Goods Exhibit (Arashiyama Station)
If you meet up with yokai between the Courage Forest and Sakura Garden by the station, then you’ll receive yokai-related goods at the Randen Balcony. Ceramic works by artist Sakamoto will also be on display along the way.
