Bushiroad Inc. released an update for their smartphone app Love Live! School Idol Festival (developed with KLab Inc.) on July 5. This update was revealed at School Festival Thanksgiving 2016, held in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro Sunshine City on May 21 and 22.
More than 25 million users worldwide! In addition to the new idols participating in the festival, below you’ll find some details about the new and improved game content!
■ The new idols Aqours will be joining!
Music and stickers in the sticker shop have already been released for Aqours, but now they’ll finally be participating! Distribution through scholarship student scouting and the main story will begin! Their main story will be open regardless of rank, so newcomers to School Festival have nothing to worry about♪ Everything is voiced! R members (released beforehand in the sticker shop) will also get voices.
■ μ's and Aqours Exchange Function Added!
You can switch between μ's and Aqours modes in menus including Live, Story, and Scouting. You can choose the unit of your liking for any mode, but it’s easier for μ's members to score in the μ's Musical Composition mode, and for Aqours members in the Aqours mode. The Aqours Musical Composition mode will also be open regardless of rank.
■ New items on member cards! The new rarity SSR has appeared!
SSR is a rarity rank for scholarship student scouting between UR and SR. SR will also appear more frequently!
■ Special skill level specifications have changed!
You can acquire special skill level experience points by practicing with member cards with the same special skill or special skill support members, and as you do so, your level will rise. You can also choose special skill support members to practice with regardless of rarity!
*Attributes have to be the same to practice with special skill support members.*
*Special skill level experience points are not influenced by huge or super success.*
■ Center skills have also changed!
In addition to the UR’s current center skill effect, it can also be made stronger by arranging based on special groups, classes, or units. The pre-distributed UR center skill will also change, of course! Who knows what kind of effect this might have♪
■ Partners and Favorite PT have been established!
You can now select partners from other units. Partners primarily appear on the main screen as navigators, and appear as friends based on your main unit’s center. The new feature Favorite PT has also been introduced. You can see the cards of members you frequently use, and depending on your bond, they can join your unit or become a partner and play at concerts.
■ Member display exchange function added!
You can now change the displays of your usual members, and play with either!
■ The member list has been made easier to use!
The initial upper limit of members has grown from 90 to 120. Along with this, the number can no longer be increased through challenges.
*This will not increase the amount already earned as a reward.*
*One Loveca Stone can be used to increase the maximum number of members, and these will be distributed to those who have reached their max. The highest number of members has increased to 1,000, and the limit number of Loveca Stones has increased from three to four.*
*Users who are already at the upper limit of Loveca Stones will have their limit increased by one after the update.*
*Support members have been moved to a dedicated page and will not count against member counts.*
*Along with this, special skill support members with skills above level 1 will also be transformed into as many special skill support members (with a special skill level 1) as equals their levels.*

■ The new features “Prize Box” and “School Idol Skill” have been added!
The new function “Prize Box” has been added for when you clear concerts. As you clear concerts, your gauge will fill, and once it’s full you can open a special box. The box can be filled with a variety of special items, including school idol skills. Prize boxes have different ranks, and the higher the rank, the better the items but the higher the score needed to open them. School Idol Skills are special skills which can be used to strengthen your member cards and can be acquired through getting prize boxes. Depending on the skill, you’ll need between one and four member card slots. The stronger the skill, the more it needs.
■ Special practice (awakening) is more powerful!
Before, you couldn’t practice with two unequal cards of the same member, but now you can using stickers. You can also increase the number of slots for school idol skill sets.
*The number of stickers you get from training an awakened member or changing their post has decreased from two to one.*
・Special practice for bonding the same member cards
In addition to awakening, school idol skill slots have increased by one.
*Players with members who have already been awakened will have their slots increased by one, as well.*
・Special practice using stickers
By using the set number of stickers, you can awaken a member. The number required depends on the rarity of card.

Members who have already awakened can have their school idol skill slots increased through special practice. It increases two if you use cards of the same member, and one if you use stickers.

■ Expert difficulty has permanently changed, and master has been added!
Expert has changed from special songs to normal and will have the same selection as easy, normal, and hard. You can also now enjoy them anytime you want. Additionally, a difficulty even higher than expert has been added: Master! It’s taking expert’s place as the hardest difficulty, and it will have limited-time songs. There are expected to be four each month.
Previous song goals can now be retried.
*There will no longer be special songs on expert.*
*Master will begin with μ's songs.*
■ The daily special “Random Select” has been introduced!
A concert which uses a randomly selected song from the available normal ones. After a certain number of normal songs have been made available, special songs are also eligible. Randomly selected songs are chosen daily from Smile, Pure, and Cool at four degrees of difficulty including easy, normal, hard, and expert for μ's Mode and Aqours Mode. The prize box gauge is easy to fill using the random select mode.

A school idol project dedicated to making dreams come true through a variety of media. Its releases have included music CDs featuring the school idol group μ’s with a PV (DVD & BD). Its publications include magazines and light novels, and it has also expanded into anime, smartphone games, consumer games, trading card games, and even live concerts performed by the cast, as well as radio and Nico streaming events.
The first season aired from January to March 2013, and its second season aired from April to June 2014. Its film Love Live! The School Idol Movie opened June 13, 2015 and was viewed by more than 2 million people, earning 2.8 trillion yen. The final μ's solo concert was held in Tokyo Dome on March 31 and April 1, 2016.

A new school idol project spreading across different media themed around making dreams come true. Formed in Numazu, Shizuoka, the new school idol group Aqours has released a music CD with an animated PV (DVD & BD), and have even branched into events, magazines, and smartphone applications. The project started in April 2015 in Dengeki G’s Magazine. Their first single, “Kimi no Kokoro wa Kagayaiteru Kai?,” was released that October. Then, on July 2, 2016, the TV anime began airing!
