Decades after his creation, Astro Boy still lends a helping hand to those around him!
In collaboration with Tezuka Productions, the Cedyna-owned Mitsui Sumitomo Financial Group has released the special Astro Card, a card specially designated to contribute to society. Each time the card is used, funds made from each purchase are given to specific charities for a certain amount of time.
Thanks to the Astro Card, over 45 million yen has been graciously donated to over eight worthy charities in all!
Made available in 2003, the Astro Card was made to reflect the kind-hearted thoughts that Osamu Tezuka himself felt when it came to helping shape children's dreams and ensuring their futures. Every time the card is used, 0.3% from the purchase amount is donated.
The charities aren't random, either. Tezuka Productions and Cedyna together formed the Astro Card Committee - every year, they vote on which organizations will receive proceeds from the card. For 2015, it was decided that it would be split up between the National Children's Orphanage Convention, five relief-organizations for the Kumamoto earthquakes, the Japanese IBD Association, and the NPO IBD Network.
And because these charitable actions have worked out so well up until now, Cedyna will continue creating "contribution-to-society" credit cards with the hope of inspiring more proactive efforts in helping society.
