First Season of Anime Sword Art Online to Be Rebroadcast Beginning July 5!

This hit TV anime was based on the massively popular light novel which has sold more than 16.7 million copies. Commemorating the release of its movie in 2017, the Aincrad and Fairy Dance arcs are going to be rebroadcast!

Commemorating the release of Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale in 2017, the Aincrad and Fairy Dance arcs of the Sword Art Online anime, which first aired in 2012, will be rebroadcast beginning Tuesday, July 5!

The Sword Art Online anime series is based on the light novel of the same name by Reki Kawahara, winner of the 15th Dengeki Light Novel 1st Prize. Set in a mysterious next-gen online game called Sword Art Online, it follows the story of protagonist Kirito. Since the release of its first volume in April 2009 it’s gained a phenomenal amount of popularity, and a total of more than 11.5 million copies of the series have been printed in Japan (16.7 million worldwide). It has since grown to cover a variety of media including two TV anime, games, and merchandise. There will also be a movie in 2017 telling an entirely new story which was also written by Kawahara. This series is loved and supported by fans all over the world.

There will also be a special live broadcast on Niconico on June 27 where fans can hear the latest details on the movie and game! An incredible lineup of the staff and cast including Kirito’s voice actor, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, will be there to share the news.
