“Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation” World Unveiled in New Visual and PV

Phantasy Star Online 2, a popular online RPG by Sega Games, will be adapted into a TV series and start airing in January 2016 under the title Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation. Broadcast information about the series was just recently revealed. It will first go on air on TBS and CBC on Jan. 7, then on MBS from Jan. 8, and finally on BS-TBS from Jan. 9, so viewers can enjoy the show in every region.

A new key visual featuring the protagonist Itsuki Tachibana and many other characters was also unveiled. Although the original game is staged on various planets, the illustration has Earth in the background.

There’s new information about the second PV, too: The video uses the new visual with the theme song “Zessei Stargate” performed by Shota Aoi. It features flashy action scenes with myriads of enemies and comical school scenes under the melody of the song. It was also revealed that the series would follow a completely original storyline different from that of the game, and the PV does a great job in raising hopes toward the mystery-wrapped story. It allows us a peek into the world of Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation, a series that aims to become something only online game adaptations can.

The theme song “Zessei Stargate” will be released on Feb. 3 as Aoi’s fifth single. The limited first edition will include a DVD featuring the music video of the title song along with item codes you can use in the game. It is priced at ¥2,200, while the regular edition can be purchased for ¥1,200 (both prices do not include tax).

Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation is directed by Keiichiro Kawaguchi, who is known for his work in Zettai Karen Children and Life Counseling TV Animation “Jinsei”, and Telecom Animation Film is undertaking animation production.
