On July 26, Chiba’s Makuhari Messe served as the venue for Wonder Festival 2015 Summer (WonFes). The festival attracted many visitors, and intricate figures as well as wonderful new merchandise from a variety of makers caught plenty of attention.
Just like previous years, the company booth areas occupying Halls 1–3 were full of new releases. Popular figure manufacturer Kotobukiya showed off their new Nikumi (Ikumi Mito) and Akatsuki figures from Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma and Kantai Collection -KanColle- respectively. In addition, upcoming merchandise from the Is the Order a Rabbit? series was also announced.
Aniplex announced that a posable Tharsis Variable Action figure from Aldnoah Zero is currently under production. Furthermore, a smartphone RPG titled Fate/Grand Order based on the popular Fate series is expected to be released this winter. Characters in Fate/Grand Order will have a cuter design that makes them all about two heads tall.
Halls 4–8 were filled with regular booths that displayed different genres of merchandise, including soft vinyl figures and plastic models. A long-term WonFes dealer from France showed his satisfaction towards the event, commenting that even those like him who do not have a strong grasp of Japanese are “able to communicate effectively with all sorts of people through merchandise at the venue.”
WonFes ended on a very positive note this summer. The festival will be back again next year, with the date currently set at Feb. 7.
