“AntiMagic Academy ‘The 35th Test Platoon’” Anime to Begin in October

Developments are underway for the anime AntiMagic Academy “The 35th Test Platoon” (Tai-Mado Gakuen 35 Shiken Shotai) slated to begin broadcasting this October. The official site has been renewed, and posted on it are a new key visual, character information, and additional cast members. The anime is based on an original light novel by Toki Yanagimi published by Kadokawa Fantasia Bunko. The series takes place at AntiMagic Academy, an institute that trains Inquisitors of Heretics who crack down on the threat of magic.

Three characters were revealed this time. First is Mari Nikaido (CV: Kanae Ito), a cheerful, naive girl who has the ancient magical ability of manipulating the aurora borealis and who believes in using magic to make people happy. After a certain incident, she loses her memory and is assigned to guard duty in the 35th Test Platoon.

Lapis (CV: Iori Nomizu), a girl with lapis lazuli eyes and hair who wears a matching colored outfit, is a type of “Relic Eater,” weapons passed down from antiquity, called Mistletein. She appears before main character Takeru when he is on the verge of death and chooses him as her host. Normally quiet and expressionless, Lapis is actually highly prideful and becomes jealous whenever Takeru tries using another weapon.

The third newly released character is Haunted (CV: Koji Yusa), a dangerous S-rank magician who uses the ancient magic of manipulating despair. Though a former priest and summoner who can control the dead and perform alchemy, his personal history is completely unknown. He is a leader of the group Valhalla, the goal of which is recovering witches feared by humans.

Along with the main characters already revealed—Takeru Kusanagi (CV: Yoshimasa Hosoya) and Oka Otori (CV: Reina Ueda)—cast members for seven characters have now been confirmed. A highlight of the newly released key visual is that it shows two of the characters just announced: Lapis and Mari.

Information on the opening and ending theme songs has also been released. Afilia Saga is in charge of the opening theme and Kanako Ito the ending theme. Because each artist has created theme songs for countless anime, it seems these songs will gain attention all the more. Even on the music side, this is a series to look forward to.
